A Cantonese place so legit, it’s underground and you need to ask for a fork. The food is amazing and it’s open ’til 3am, making for a perfect last stop after the clubs on weekends.

Some hostels have a rep of being grimy and outdated – not this one. HI Boston is chic and right downtown. (Free wi-fi and breakfast are also selling points.)

Right over the river lies a tiny lounge that, as many say, feels like a Berlin techno club on the appropriate night. (Your best bet for that is a Thursday, and occasionally a Tuesday.) This spot boasts a lax vibe, cool people, and good music.

Attn. chocoholics: this one’s for you. Desserts galore. (And if you’ve got extra money to spend, a bed in the Langham Hotel itself would be the cure for your chocolate coma.)
